It’s no secret that the media landscape has changed significantly over the past several years. The rise of Big Tech, streaming platforms, video on demand, social media. It’s difficult for consumers to know who to trust or where to turn for reliable news and information.
Outdated FCC regulations make it difficult for local broadcast companies to continue growing and investing to meet the new realities of the media marketplace, which now offers consumers more choices than ever. As the nation's largest local broadcast company, Nexstar believes that modernizing these rules is essential to ensuring that audiences continue to receive the high-quality, local news and content they deserve. The Chairman of the FCC, Brendan Carr, has asked for consumers to help him identify and modernize or eliminate unnecessary FCC regulations. He’s calling it the “Delete, delete, delete” initiative.
Television viewers in communities across the United States depend on their local TV stations to provide them with important information that directly impacts their lives, including news, weather, sports, and often lifesaving emergency information. Local TV stations are often the first place people turn to for news and information. As local newspapers go out of business or severely limit their operations, the role local broadcasters play in disseminating accurate information is more important than ever. Without regulatory relief, local television stations will be unable to continue making the kinds of investments necessary to produce the high-quality news and information programing upon which viewers rely daily.
